Examine and improve information regarding the location, status, trends and threats to flora and fauna of India

Compile inventories, assessments, surveys, and field mapping tools to support the mapping, monitoring, management, recovery and restoration of biological resources of concern

Develop technologies and tools that enhance the ability of governments, scientists, and NGOs to better understand, document, and manage biodiversity

Document and disseminate standard methods and protocols for supporting the assessment and implementation of conservation and resource management initiatives

Develop a reference library of genetic resources of Indian flora and fauna of conservation importance

Carry out molecular studies of Indian flora and fauna for unravelling their population structure, demography, genetic diversity, dispersal, evolutionary patterns, biogeography etc

Develop capacities for curbing illegal wildlife trade in India through awareness programs and training modules aimed at sensitizing and enhancing skills of enforcement agencies.

Mitigation and management of Human – Animal conflicts for sustainable development

Develop and analyze information regarding the effects of natural disturbances such as fire, flood, draught, etc. on biodiversity

Create awareness among people about the need for biodiversity conservation and the significance of maintaining an ecological balance for sustainable environments

Undertake socio-economic research for the promotion of sustainable livelihood options in rural areas for economic growth and empowerment of women

Study and document the indigenous cultural practices, languages and folk songs of forest dwelling communities of India

Produce technical reports, research publications, manuals, best practice guidelines and other documents for supporting the above activities
